The table is sturdy
Enough for bad mannered elbows holding heads
In heated debates of political opinion and other ways
To fry a fish
The table is whimsical
Enough to escape reality, for the dinner bell tolls
As does last call for a sloshed father treading nightmares
In his child’s dreams
The table is light
Enough to turn a disadvantage into one of advantage
Sitting where the old man sat, heaven is that much closer
The table is full
Enough to pass the salt in hushed commentary
To eat, drink, and be merry
