I went out of the neighborhood
And found people
Unlike the girls and boys
Next door
I went out of the neighborhood
And onto streets I haven’t been before
I found that I could be myself
Unlike the labels we place
On the front of our doors
I went out of the neighborhood
And addressed
People of a different locality
People unlike the people of my childhood
And I found this makes a world of difference
In adulthood
I went out of the neighborhood
